Why the eBRC Exporter Workspace Is Free

An eBRC is a statement that money you have already earned actually reached you. Charging an exporter to produce one is charging them to prove they were paid. That is the whole reason this is free, and below is the rest of the arrangement in full.

You have already paid for this several times

Think about what a single realisation has cost you by the time the certificate is due. Your bank took its charges on the inward remittance. Somebody was paid to reconcile it. If you file through a consultant, there is a fee per certificate, and it arrives whether the filing was complicated or took four minutes.

And what the eBRC actually says is modest: this money, against this export, reached this exporter. It is a receipt for work you have already done and payment you have already received. Putting a price on producing it means charging you for the privilege of proving you followed the rules.

We did not want to be one more line item in that chain. So we are not.

No wall in front of it either

Free is only half the point. The other half is that there is nothing to get past first.

Compliance software usually asks you to book a demo, sit through a call, or hand over your details to a sales team before you are allowed to see whether the thing works. You are qualified before you are helped.

Here you sign up and connect DGFT, and your remittances are in front of you inside a minute. If you already have the shipping bill for one of them, you can file that certificate straight away, in the same sitting, without speaking to anybody. Nobody calls you, and nothing is unlocked later.

The promise, stated plainly

The eBRC exporter app at app.ebrc.in is free at any volume. No certificate limit. No card at sign-up. No paid tier for exporters, and no trial clock running quietly in the background.

One certificate a year or several hundred a month, the price is the same, and it is nothing.

In one line: an eBRC is a compliance document every exporter needs, and we do not think you should have to pay to produce it.

What "free" covers, in full

The word usually means free until the part you actually needed. So here is the whole of it, listed rather than summarised, because a promise you have to discover the edges of is not much of a promise:

  • Connecting DGFT, once. After that your remittances arrive on their own and you stop going to look for them.
  • Every inward remittance we pull, with its status and the balance still unused, so you can see what is left to certify.
  • Generating certificates, one at a time when you are learning the flow, or a whole spreadsheet at once when you have a backlog.
  • Validation before filing, so the mistakes that would have come back as a DGFT rejection are caught while they are still cheap to fix.
  • Test mode, which runs the same checks without generating anything real. Being wrong in it costs nothing.
  • Reports and downloads, including the certificate PDF, for whenever an auditor, a bank or an incentive claim asks for one.

Nothing on that list is metered, and nothing is held back for a plan that does not exist.

Then who is paying

We are a for-profit company and we fully intend to make money. We are simply not trying to make it here, from an exporter producing a document the law already requires of them. Everything below is where it actually comes from.

The eBRC API

Platforms, banks and enterprises that generate certificates from inside their own systems use the eBRC API. It is a separate product with its own account, its own keys and its own published limits: free for general use up to 250 production certificates a month and 10 exporter entities, with plans beyond that. A payments company filing on behalf of thousands of sellers is a different business from an exporter filing for their own shipments, and it is priced like one.

Work with payment platforms and fintechs

A good deal of cross-border money moves through payment platforms and fintechs, and realisation is a problem they inherit whether they want it or not. We build with them on that, and those engagements pay their own way.

Scriphouse

Our other product, Scriphouse, is where exporters sell the RoDTEP scrips they have been issued and buyers settle quickly. It earns on the transaction, and only when somebody chooses to make one. Nobody has to touch it to file an eBRC.

The products still coming

The app is the first of a set rather than the whole of it. More is being built for exporters and importers around the same spine of shipments, remittances and incentives, and some of it will carry a price, because it will be doing work that goes well beyond producing a compliance document.

Not one of them depends on charging you for the eBRC itself. That is the part worth knowing, because it is why this is not a promise we will have to revisit.

What happens to your export data

Free products have earned their reputation on this, and export data is unusually sensitive: who your buyers are, what you sell them, what you charge, and when you get paid. In the wrong hands it is a competitor's research budget.

  • We do not sell it. To anyone. Not to buyers, not to lead brokers, not to data aggregators, not as an anonymised feed.
  • Your DGFT password is encrypted, and it is never displayed back to anyone. Not to you, not to us, not on any screen.
  • Your filings stay yours. We use your data to run the service for you and to make it work better, and for nothing else.

The longer version is in the privacy policy, and it says the same thing at greater length.

What free does not mean

Two edges, because a promise without them is just a slogan.

DGFT issues the certificate, not us. We prepare the filing, check it, submit it and bring the result back, usually in about two hours. What DGFT accepts, and when, is theirs to decide. When they reject something, we hand you their reason in plain terms rather than a status code.

Free does not mean unattended. If a filing comes back rejected and you cannot see why, reply to us and a person will look at the actual record.

Why we are spelling all this out

Because you were right to be suspicious. Most people reading a page like this are looking for the catch, and they are usually looking because they found one somewhere else. The only useful response is to put the whole arrangement in front of you, including where the money does come from, and let you decide whether it holds together.

If it does not, tell us. We would rather hear it.

Test the claim instead of trusting it

Create an account, connect DGFT, and put one certificate through. Nothing asks for a card, and nothing will.
